Mersin University Faculty of Maritime
Mersin University Faculty of Maritime aims to equip its students with the knowledge, skills, and competencies required to compete at national and international levels in line with the evolving needs of the maritime industry, while contributing to Türkiye’s maritime strength, qualified human resources, and sustainable development goals. In accordance with Mersin University’s mission in education, research, and contribution to society, the Faculty places particular emphasis on integrating theoretical knowledge with practical training and on developing students’ professional competencies as well as their leadership, decision-making, problem-solving, and teamwork skills.
Established in 2012, the Faculty operates at the Çiftlikköy Campus and comprises four departments: Maritime Business Administration, Maritime Transportation and Management Engineering, Marine Engineering, and Basic Sciences. In addition to undergraduate education, the Faculty also offers graduate-level education in maritime-related fields.
With its modern educational and practical training infrastructure, the Faculty ranks among the leading maritime education and training facilities in Türkiye. In addition to fully equipped bridge, ECDIS, GMDSS, radar, and liquid cargo handling simulators, maritime practical training facilities, and modern laboratories, the Faculty provides students with a comprehensive and practice-oriented learning environment through its wave pool, which enables the simulation of different conditions encountered in the real maritime environment.
The Faculty supports its students’ academic education with real-world industry experience through partnerships developed with maritime companies, ship agencies, shipowners, ports, marinas, logistics organizations, public institutions, and other stakeholders in the maritime sector. Internships, practical training, technical visits, industry-oriented events, and career activities constitute important components of this approach. By bringing together Mersin University’s academic expertise and the practical experience of the maritime industry, this structure contributes to the professional development of our students and to strengthening Türkiye’s maritime capacity.
The fact that Mersin is one of Türkiye’s major port and logistics centres provides the Faculty with a significant advantage in establishing direct interaction with various segments of the maritime industry. Within this strong maritime and logistics ecosystem, the Faculty is developing education and research activities in emerging areas of maritime affairs, including digital transformation, artificial intelligence, smart and autonomous ships, energy efficiency, sustainable maritime transportation, maritime safety and security, and cybersecurity. The Faculty also supports research and development activities aimed at advancing indigenous and national maritime technologies and applications.
The fundamental goal of the Mersin University Faculty of Maritime is to educate graduates who possess the knowledge, skills, and competencies not merely to meet the needs of today’s maritime industry, but to shape the maritime world of tomorrow, while contributing to the development of Türkiye’s national maritime capacity and strengthening Mersin University’s academic and sectoral contribution to the maritime field.
