Department of Bologna

The Bologna Process is an initiative that aims to standardize higher education in Türkiye, ensure quality assurance, and achieve international harmonization standards, while also making our university a center of attraction in the field of higher education.

The main objectives of this process can be summarized as follows:

  • To ensure the standardization and comparability of higher education diplomas and degrees;
  • Implement the four-stage degree system (Associate, Bachelor's, Master's, and Doctoral) in accordance with the ECTS criteria;
  • To fully implement the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS/ECTS);
  • To encourage and facilitate student and academic mobility;
  • To ensure the establishment and dissemination of quality assurance systems;
  • To ensure international standards in higher education and to become a center of attraction in this field.

Turkey played an active role by joining the Bologna Process in 2001. This participation has brought about significant changes in the field of higher education. Turkey has transitioned to a four-stage degree system: associate, bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees, and has begun implementing the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS). Furthermore, student and faculty mobility has been encouraged, and quality assurance systems have been established. This process has increased the international recognition of Turkish universities and facilitated the transfer of students and faculty to other universities in Europe.

The competencies and qualifications required for our students at graduation have been determined in accordance with international standards as a result of Mersin University's efforts to align with the Bologna process, which began in 2010. In addition to the competencies listed in the "Information Package" on our university's website, the "Information Package Course Catalogue" also includes the national/international competencies framework for associate, undergraduate, and graduate programs, program competencies, program learning outcomes, the course and program competency relationship matrix, the Bologna course information package load, learning methods and techniques, assessment methods, national and international access resources to be utilized in courses, course structure, course topics, and learning objectives/outcomes. These are detailed and periodically updated.

Workloads for semesters and courses, along with the corresponding European Credit Transfer System (ECTS) credits, are determined, and curriculum and credit compatibility are ensured to facilitate international student exchange programs.
