Maritime Program Requirements for International Students

For international students who will enrol in our university’s Maritime Vocational School programs:
To enrol in this program, students must:

  • a) Meet the legal requirements regarding admission and health conditions stated in the "Regulation on Seafarers and Pilot Captains" and the "Education and Examination Directive for Seafarers and Pilot Captains."
  • b) Obtain a "Seafarer’s Health Report" as specified in the "Seafarers Health Directive" published by the General Directorate of Borders and Coasts Health, have it approved by a Health Inspection Centre, and receive a "Seafarer’s Health Examination Certificate."

The Directorate General of Maritime Affairs has stated that foreign students studying maritime-related associate and undergraduate programs in Türkiye have the right to take competency exams according to the relevant articles of the "Regulation on Seafarers and Pilot Captains" and can be issued training certificates in line with their education. However, they cannot be issued a seafarer’s ID (passport equivalent). Upon completion of ongoing legal amendments, students will not only be entitled to take the exams but also receive competency and specialization certificates. In addition, foreign students who meet the requirements of paragraph 13 of Rule I/2 of the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification, and Watch keeping for Seafarers (STCW) and whose education includes maritime training (sea internship) must request a seafarer’s ID from their own countries.
