General Information
Mersin University Faculty of Dentistry was established by the Council of Ministers’ Decision published in the Official Gazette dated 27 August 2015 and numbered 29458. The Faculty began providing oral and dental health services as of January 2016.
The primary mission of our Faculty is to train dentists who possess knowledge, skills, and ethical values in the field of oral and dental health, who follow contemporary scientific developments, and who are capable of delivering high-quality healthcare services to society. In line with this mission, our Faculty is committed to providing modern, high-quality, patient-centered oral and dental healthcare services in accordance with universal standards. With its expert academic staff who closely follow technological and scientific innovations, the Faculty also aims to adopt a comprehensive and effective service approach in the management of complex cases.
Our Faculty consists of two departments: Basic Sciences and Clinical Sciences.
Under the Department of Basic Sciences, there is the Department of Basic Sciences.
Under the Department of Clinical Sciences, there are the Departments of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Pediatric Dentistry, Endodontics, Orthodontics, Periodontology, Prosthodontics, and Restorative Dentistry.
Mersin University Faculty of Dentistry admitted its first undergraduate students in the 2017–2018 academic year and commenced its educational activities. Initially, education was provided in a classroom and laboratory located in the Basic Medical Sciences building of the Mersin University Faculty of Medicine. Since 2020, educational activities have continued in a new building with approximately 3,000 m² of indoor area, consisting of five classrooms, laboratories, and administrative and academic offices.
Additionally, all departments under the Department of Clinical Sciences offer Specialty Training in Dentistry (DUS). As of June 2023, our Faculty has continued providing clinical services in the new building of the Dental Practice and Research Center, which features 12,500 m² of indoor space and a capacity of 178 dental units.
By admitting both undergraduate students and specialty trainees simultaneously in its early years, our Faculty has demonstrated rapid development. With its contemporary, science-based, and ethically grounded approach to dental education, our Faculty aims to educate competent dentists of the future by embracing the principles of educational excellence, scientific productivity, and community-oriented healthcare service.
