The 2026 Meeting of the Council of Deans of Nursing Faculties (HEMDEK), organized to further improve the quality of nursing education, strengthen cooperation between faculties, and establish common approaches to education and training processes, was held on Friday, June 12, 2026, in the Senate Room of Mersin University.

The meeting, attended by the deans of nursing faculties, vice rectors, and relevant academic administrators, comprehensively evaluated the education and training activities for the 2025-2026 academic year. A constructive and productive exchange of views took place regarding studies supporting academic success, quality assurance processes, scientific research activities, and student-centered practices.

In accordance with HEMDEK's working procedures and principles, strategies for the continuous improvement of nursing education were discussed. The difficulties faced by faculties in their education and training processes were evaluated in light of scientific evidence; and solution proposals regarding standardization in education, accreditation, strengthening academic and physical infrastructure, and employment policies were shared.

One of the prominent agenda items of the meeting was the National Core Curriculum for Nursing (NUCEP). Efforts to train graduates with the competencies and qualifications defined in the NUCEP were evaluated, along with suggestions for disseminating and updating the program. Furthermore, a common approach was adopted regarding closely monitoring national and international scientific developments and shaping developed strategies in a way that contributes to higher education policies.

The deans shared their experiences and best practice examples regarding the education, research, and community service activities carried out in their faculties; suggestions for increasing cooperation between faculties and making joint working committees more effective were also discussed.

At the end of the meeting, it was emphasized that decisions aimed at improving the quality of nursing education and developing sustainable collaborations in line with common goals would make valuable contributions to the future of nursing education in our country. The HEMDEK 2026 Meeting, enriched by the knowledge, experience, and suggestions of the participants, concluded with the evaluation of agenda items and the determination of work plans for the coming period, and with wishes for further strengthening cooperation and solidarity.
