The Intellectual Property Rights Board convened on April 1, 2026, under the chairmanship of Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Ahmet Hakan Öztürk and coordinated by the Technology Transfer Office (TTO). The meeting evaluated two inventions, developed through strong collaboration between the university and industry, for application to the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office.

The meeting took place in the meeting room of the Mersin University Advanced Technology Education Research and Application Center (MEİTAM), with the participation of board members Prof. Dr. Caner Özdemir, Prof. Dr. Suphan Karaytuğ, Prof. Dr. Seyhan Şahan Fırat, Prof. Dr. Nadir Dizge, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Fahri Özsungur, and the Intellectual and Industrial Property Rights Officer, Ramazan Duman.

The meeting included presentations by Prof. Dr. Nadir Dizge, a faculty member of the Department of Environmental Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering, and representatives from Arşen Process and BYR Kimya Arıtma San. Tic. Ltd. The inventions titled “Supercritical CO2 (Sc-CO2) Management for Selective Oleuropein Removal in Table Olive Production While Preserving Natural Structure and Oil Phase” and “Functional Food Product Obtained by Supercritical Fluid-Assisted Deep Aromatic Infusion Method and System” belonging to the company were presented to the board members. Providing information on olives, Prof. Dr. Nadir Dizge stated that fresh olives are not as innocent as they appear on the branch, containing a powerful phenolic compound called oleuropein, which gives olives their sharp, burning bitterness. Prof. Dr. Dizge said, “Oleuropein is like a natural weapon that the plant uses to protect itself against insects and microbes. That's why no olive can be eaten directly without processing. The Supercritical CO2 Bitterness Removal patent method offers a healthy, fast, and environmentally friendly alternative.” He said.

It was decided to submit the two inventions to the University's board of directors for application to the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office in accordance with the provisions of the Mersin University-Company Joint Patent Application and Commercialization Agreement.
