Environmental Awareness Practices By Tourism And Travel Services Program Students
A series of awareness-raising activities were carried out under the coordination of Lecturer Dr. Sercan Benli of the Tourism and Travel Services Program at Mersin University's Vocational School of Social Sciences, Department of Travel-Tourism and Entertainment Services. These activities were conducted as important practices aimed at increasing students' environmental awareness within the scope of the Environmental Protection course.
The first activity involved a comprehensive cleanup of the beaches surrounding the Viranşehir MESKİ wastewater treatment plant, with the participation of program students. The second activity was organized around the school. Students actively participated in activities aimed at developing environmental awareness.
These activities aimed to provide students with practical experience in environmental protection, beyond theoretical knowledge, and to foster a sustainable tourism approach. The activities contributed to the development of students' environmental responsibility awareness.
Similar activities are planned to continue in the future as part of the course. This includes environmental cleanups at an archaeological site and a designated beach area, as well as tree planting activities around a newly constructed school.
These activities are expected to contribute to the students' professional development as well as strengthen their sense of social responsibility.
