An Event Was Organized At The Davultepe Children's Homes Complex As Part Of The Semeni Tradition.
A meaningful event was held at the Davultepe Children's Homes Complex on Thursday, March 12th, by faculty members from Mersin University's Vocational School of Social Sciences. The event was attended by Lecturers Burak Çetinkaya and İbrahim Çakan, Dr. Döndü Can (who teaches Turkish Language courses), and Dr. Pelin Kılınç Özüölmez (Deputy Director of the Vocational School of Social Sciences).
The event, aimed at girls aged 13-18, was held within the framework of the Semeni tradition, known in Turkish culture as a symbol of the arrival of spring, the rebirth of nature, and abundance. In this tradition, which extends from Central Asia to the present day, the planting of wheat and various seeds symbolically represents the rebirth of life, hope, abundance, and a culture of sharing.
Following the planting of wheat and seeds, participants expressed their wishes and attached beads to ribbons. The event, conducted in two stages, saw children first expressing wishes for their own dreams and desires, and then wishing for the happiness and well-being of others. Thus, the event became a meaningful experience that reinforced the culture of sharing and wishing well for others, alongside individual hopes.
The event, where dreams, hopes, and the beauty of life were discussed, took place in a very enjoyable and exciting atmosphere. Davultepe Children's Homes Site Manager Kadir Yüksel and Social Worker Özge Önen also participated in the program.
The event, through the Semeni tradition symbolizing the awakening of nature and the arrival of spring, contributed to children's reflection on the values of hope, solidarity, and sharing. The program concluded as a productive and meaningful social event for the participants.
