Our Tourism And Hotel Management Students Visited The Mercan Climate And Environmental Science Center
Students from the Tourism and Hotel Management Program at Mersin University's Vocational School of Social Sciences conducted a technical visit to the Mercan Climate and Environmental Science Center to observe environmental awareness and sustainable tourism practices firsthand. The visit was accompanied by the Head of Department, Lecturer Dr. Murat Özdamar, and lecturers İbrahim Çakan and Burak Çetinkaya.
During the visit, students were informed about climate change, environmental sustainability, the protection of natural resources, and ecological balance. Through the scientific studies and applied exhibition areas at the center, they gained comprehensive knowledge about the global and local dimensions of environmental problems.
The visit provided students with the opportunity to evaluate the impact of the tourism sector on the environment and understand the importance of sustainable tourism practices. Particular emphasis was placed on the strategic importance of environmentally friendly management approaches, carbon footprint, energy efficiency, and natural resource management for the tourism sector.
It was noted that the technical visit enhanced the students' professional perspectives and contributed to their adoption of an environmentally conscious and sustainability-oriented tourism approach. It was stated that these types of applied activities, organized within the framework of university-community cooperation, make significant contributions to reinforcing students' theoretical knowledge with field experience.
