A meaningful conference was organized by the Life Sciences Society, formed by Biology Department students, and its management team, in collaboration with the International Day of Women and Girls in Science on February 11th. Held in the Prof. Dr. Uğur Oral Conference Hall, the event addressed the contributions of women scientists who shaped the history of science and the inspiring value these contributions hold for today's female students.

The International Day of Women and Girls in Science, declared by the United Nations on February 11th, aims to promote the equal, inclusive, and effective participation of women and girls in science, technology, engineering, and basic sciences. This special day aims not only to raise social awareness but also to highlight the contributions of women scientists who have made significant contributions to scientific production throughout history.

The conference presented examples of the work of women researchers who shaped the history of science, including the pioneering work and scientific perseverance of two-time Nobel laureate Marie Curie in the field of radioactivity, and Rosalind Franklin's critical contributions to elucidating the double helix structure of DNA. The scientific achievements of these individuals were highlighted, as well as their unwavering determination despite the structural and societal obstacles they faced.

The event also assessed, from an academic perspective, the opportunities and challenges women face in contemporary scientific production processes; and discussed the impact of gender equality on scientific progress. Within the framework of the message, "If they succeeded, more is possible today," it was stated that the scientific legacy from the past to the present serves as a powerful source of motivation for young women researchers.

In conclusion, this conference aimed not only to commemorate women who have left their mark on the history of science, but also to encourage future scientists, strengthen awareness of equal participation in scientific production, and create social awareness in the academic field.
