The Visual Anatomy Of Misinformation Exhibition
The “Staying Safe in the Digital World Summit,” organized by the Presidency of Communications Adana Regional Directorate, began with the opening of an infographic exhibition titled “The Visual Anatomy of Misinformation,” prepared by Lecturer Dr. Hacı Mehmet Acar from Mersin University Social Sciences Vocational School, focusing on combating disinformation.
The exhibition opening was attended by Adana Governor Yavuz Selim Köşger, Presidency of Communications Adana Regional Director Mustafa Yalınız, Çukurova University Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Ömer Korkut, and Adana Alpaslan Türkeş Science and Technology University Vice Rector Prof. Dr. The exhibition, featuring 20 works, was attended by Seyhan District Governor Ekrem İnci, TRT Çukurova Regional Director Fatih Doğru, Anadolu Agency Adana Regional Director İbrahim Erikan, Press Advertisement Agency Regional Director Çetin Oranlı, Provincial National Education Director Mehmet Nurettin Aras, Forestry Regional Director Tahsin Etli, TRT General Manager Advisor and Children's Media Expert Bora Durmuşoğlu, academics, and students.
Dr. Hacı Mehmet Acar stated that the exhibition, prepared as an outcome of the project and drawing on observations and educational approaches from workshops held in Mersin, Hatay, and Adana, positions infographic design as a pedagogical tool, aiming not only to transmit information but also to question its accuracy and critically evaluate it. Emphasizing that visual communication design is not merely about arranging aesthetic forms, Acar made the following assessment:
“Today, information circulates rapidly through social networks, transcending the boundaries of traditional media; this speed brings with it new problems such as disinformation, information pollution, and manipulation of perception. This exhibition aims to approach this contemporary problem through the instructive, critical, and social aspects of graphic design.”
Following the exhibition opening, the event continued with various panels and workshops.
