Paramedics Day Celebrated With Enthusiasm At Mersin University
An event of special significance was organized by Mersin University School of Health Services Vocational College on the occasion of 22 December Paramedics Day. The program, held with strong participation from academic staff, students, graduates, and invited guests, highlighted the historical development of the paramedic profession, field experiences, and its importance in raising social awareness.
The event began with a moment of silence in memory of Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and the nation’s martyrs, followed by the Turkish National Anthem. Subsequently, the opening address was delivered by Prof. Dr. Gülay Altun Uğraş, Director of the School of Health Services Vocational College at Mersin University. In her speech, Prof. Dr. Altun Uğraş emphasized the indispensable role of paramedics within the healthcare system and drew attention to the profession’s strong foundations of dedication and responsibility.
As part of the program, Paramedic Habip Gostak met with participants through his presentation titled “The History of Emergency Health Services.” The presentation addressed the development of 112 Emergency Health Services in Türkiye and conveyed the transformation of the profession from past to present. This was followed by Emergency Medical Technician Feray Sarıbaş, who shared her professional experiences and field memories, creating emotional moments for the audience.
Later in the event, a short play performed by second-year students of the First and Emergency Aid Program at Mersin University attracted great interest. The performance drew attention to the unnecessary misuse of the 112 Emergency Call Line and was highly appreciated by the audience. During the question-and-answer session, paramedics who graduated from the school and are currently working in units affiliated with the Mersin Provincial Ambulance Service Directorate shared their professional experiences and provided guidance to students.
The event continued with a music performance prepared by students. Certificates of appreciation were presented to the speakers and alumni who contributed to the program. The celebration concluded with a group photo session.
This meaningful event organized within the scope of 22 December Paramedics Day not only enhanced the visibility of the paramedic profession but also contributed to strengthening the bond between students and graduates with field experience.
