New Patent Applications İn The Fields Of Health And Environment Have Been Submitted To The Intellectual Property Rights Board.
The Mersin University (MEÜ) Intellectual Property Rights Board, coordinated by the Technology Transfer Office (TTO), convened on December 11, 2025. The meeting focused on evaluating new inventions in the fields of health and environmental engineering for submission to the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office.
The meeting, held in the Advanced Technology Education Research and Application Center (MEİTAM) Meeting Hall, was attended by board members Prof. Dr. Caner Özdemir, Prof. Dr. Nadir Dizge, Prof. Dr. Seyhan Şahan Fırat, Prof. Dr. Suphan Karaytuğ, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Onur Uca, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Fahri Özsungur, and the Intellectual and Industrial Property Rights Officer Ramazan Duman. During the meeting, the invention of Prof. Dr. Nadir Dizge, Prof. Dr. Bülent Keskinler, and Dr. Zelal Işık from the Department of Environmental Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, concerning the recycling of used resin, was evaluated. Nadir Dizge and Pınar Belibağlı's invention, which involves the integration of fishbone waste into a circular economy-based fertilizer production technology, and Dr. Çelebi Çelik's invention, a faculty member of the Department of Medical Pharmacology at the Faculty of Medicine, which involves a moisture-absorbing apparatus for ear moisture management, were presented to the committee members.
The invention, which involves the recycling of used resin, has advantages in terms of environmental sustainability, economic value, technical superiority, and ease of application. The invention, which has a 100% environmentally friendly conversion rate of hazardous waste into an economic product, can also be applied in fields such as wastewater treatment, adsorbent production, nanomaterials, mining and metals, medical and laboratory applications, and gas/odor removal.
Fishbone Waste to be Utilized
The invention, which involves the integration of fishbone waste into a circular economy-based fertilizer production technology, is based on domestic raw materials, is low-cost, environmentally friendly, and marketable. In addition to being an organic and domestic invention, it will also contribute to economic transformation, energy efficiency, and controlled production.
Based on the fact that moisture and water accumulation in the ear is a common health problem, the invention, which includes a moisture-absorbing device, aims to safely, quickly, and effectively absorb and trap water and moisture in the ear canal.
At the meeting, it was decided that the evaluation regarding the patent application would be presented to the University's Board of Directors. In 2025, the number of national patent applications submitted to the Intellectual Property Rights Board was 17, the number of international applications was 2, and 3 decisions were made regarding free inventions. Of these applications, 2 patents were registered.
