Radiation Protection Training Was Given To Engineering Faculty Students At The Nuclear Sciences Application And Research Center (nübımer), And The Radısa System Was İntroduced.

On 10 December 2025, the Mersin University Nuclear Sciences Application and Research Center (NÜBİMER) organized a “Radiation Protection Training” program for students of the Engineering Faculty. The training was conducted by Prof. Dr. Tonguç Özdemir, Director of NÜBİMER, at the MEİTAM Research Center building.

As part of the program, Prof. Dr. Özdemir provided a detailed overview of natural and artificial radiation sources, emphasizing that individuals may be exposed to radiation in daily life without being aware of it. Students were informed about key considerations in radiation safety and fundamental protection principles.

In the second part of the training, the Radiation Monitoring and Early Warning System Network (RADİSA), installed at MEİTAM, was introduced by Dr. Şenel Çobaner. Dr. Çobaner explained the operating principles of the system and noted that the device located at the university continuously monitors environmental radiation levels. He stated that RADİSA data are monitored 24/7 by the Nuclear Regulatory Authority (NDK), and that the public can access live measurement values through the lower section of the homepage at www.ndk.gov.tr.

During the inspection carried out as part of the training, it was observed that the current measurement of the RADİSA device at MEİTAM was recorded as 70 nSv, corresponding to the lowest value range indicated on the map.

The event was regarded as an important awareness initiative aimed at enhancing students’ understanding of nuclear safety and environmental radiation monitoring.
