ABOUT THE SYMPOSIUM

We are pleased to organize the 1st Theology Studies Student Symposium of the Mersin University Faculty of Theology.

This symposium aims to encourage students enrolled in undergraduate or graduate programs in the social sciences to undertake scholarly work in the fields of Theology.

You must fill out the Abstract Submission Form available on our website and send it to mersinilahiyatsempozyumu@gmail.com by February 28, 2025. Abstracts will be evaluated by the review committee, and accepted papers will be announced on our page at a later date.

The scope of the symposium is scholarly work in the field of theology prepared by students enrolled in undergraduate or graduate programs in the social sciences. Researchers participating in the symposium must be enrolled students in any undergraduate or graduate program in the social sciences. All participants are expected to comply with the deadlines set in the symposium calendar.

To assist students who wish to apply for the symposium, a seminar on "How to prepare an abstract?" will be given; and for those whose abstracts are accepted, a seminar on "How to write a full text and how to make an academic presentation?" will be provided. The dates when this seminar will be held will be announced here.

Participation in the symposium is free of charge.

SCOPE AND OBJECTIVES

Articles and papers constitute the ability for independent work in the academic field. An article is a piece of writing published in academic journals to explain a fact, put forward views and opinions, or defend and support a thesis or hypothesis on a specific subject in a particular field. A paper is an academic publication presented in officially organized symposia or congresses with the purpose of presenting original academic thoughts on a topic in a scholarly style before a group of experts. The scope of the symposium is scholarly work in the fields of Basic Islamic Sciences, Philosophy and Religious Sciences, and Islamic History and Arts, prepared by undergraduate and graduate students studying in the social sciences.

With this symposium, it is aimed to prepare a scholarly environment where students who wish to conduct academic work in the theological sciences can present papers related to their chosen areas of expertise and express themselves; and to publish as full texts the papers accepted and presented in sessions chaired by faculty members. Through this, it is aimed to contribute to the world of scholarship; and to enable undergraduate and graduate students to gain experience in preparing and presenting papers. It is with these objectives that a symposium titled "1st Theology Studies Student Symposium" will be organized by our faculty on May 15, 2025, in order to support young prospective academics and enable them to gain academic experience.
