‘2024-2025 ACADEMIC YEAR WHITE COAT WEARING CEREMONY’ WAS ORGANISED BY OUR FACULTY FOR OUR 1ST YEAR STUDENTS.

The White Coat Wearing Ceremony for the 2024-2025 Academic Year was held by our Faculty at the Akdeniz Cultural Centre of our University on 6 November 2024. Vice Rector Prof. Mehmet İsmail YAĞCI, Dean of our Faculty Prof. Necmiye CANACANKATAN, President of TEB 25th Regional Mersin Chamber of Pharmacists Msc. Pharm. Aliye AKGÜL AYDIN, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Güney Pharmacy Cooperative Pharm.Tarkan BİR, academic and administrative staffs, our grauated Pharmasicts, students of our Faculty and their families attended the event.

After the moment of silence and the performance of the National Anthem, the ceremony continued with a music concert performed by our Faculty students Asya OKTAY and Abdallah ALHOURANI.

Our Vice Rector Prof. Mehmet İsmail YAĞCI, who started his speech by stating that our students took the first step to their profession today and that they came to a very successful Faculty, said: ‘Our Faculty of Pharmacy is an accredited faculty. You will understand the importance of this when you graduate from here. The academic staff of our Faculty of Pharmacy is very qualified. The health sector is a sector with a very high social responsibility. I want our 1st year students, who are wearing white coats today, to get their coats dirty. But, get them dirty with your laboratory work and let amino acids splash on you. Be useful to humanity because you are really stepping into one of the oldest professions in history. Pharmacy is a profession dedicated to helping people live longer and healthier lives. You will be a part of these. Participate in social activities at our university. From now on, social transcripts will be given to our students at our University. Prepare yourself for this as well.’ Our Vice Rector Prof. Mehmet İsmail YAĞCI concluded his speech by thanking the parents of our students and the academicians of our Faculty.

Dean Prof. Necmiye CANACANKATAN started her speech congratulating our students which choose our University and Faculty and join us. I would also like to congratulate the esteemed families who have stood by their children at every stage of this success. Welcome to the Mersin University family. Dear students, by putting on your white coat, your first step into your professional education. this white coat represents values such as purity, cleanliness, honesty, wisdom and conscience. I am sure that you will carry the dignity and responsibility of the pharmacy profession in the best way in the future as graduates of Mersin University Faculty of Pharmacy.’ Prof. Dr. Necmiye CANACANKATAN reported that our University Faculty of Pharmacy is one of the 14 Pharmacy Faculties accredited for 6 years among 59 Pharmacy Faculties in Turkey. Prof. Necmiye CANACANKATAN remarked that this is an enormous achievement for our Faculty.

TEB 25th Regional Mersin Chamber of Pharmacists President Msc. Pharm. Aliye AKGÜL AYDIN also mentioned the responsibilities of the pharmacy profession in her speech, ‘Pharmacy is a deep-rooted profession with a history going back thousands of years. It has assumed a critical role in the human health and will continue to do so as long as human beings exist. As TEB 25th Regional Mersin Chamber of Pharmacists, we will always deal with you. I advise you not to leave the light of science.’

Chairman of the Board of Directors of Güney Pharmacy Cooperative Pharm. Tarkan BİR informed the guests about Güney Pharmacy Cooperative and said, "They will always be contact  our students throughout their education process. Our students will proudly carry the white coats that represent respect and nobility in society."

Fifth-grade student delegate Şeyhmus ATIZ spoke on behalf of Faculty students, sharing his five years of university experience and offering some guidance to his young colleagues who soon be wearing white coats. The white coat wearing ceremony began after the speakers.

Tarkan BİR, faculty members, graduated pharmacist of our Faculty were given white coats to our 1st year students who have just started our Faculty. The white coat ceremony concluded with a group photo session.
