14 May Pharmacy Day Celebrated At Our Unıversıty
14 MAY PHARMACY DAY CELEBRATED AT OUR UNIVERSITY
On the 185th anniversary of the establishment of the first pharmacy class at Mekteb-i Tıbbiye-i Şahane May 14th, 1839, "May 14th Pharmacy Day" was celebrated at our university, hosted by our faculty.
The events began with a wreath-laying ceremony at the Atatürk Monument in Cumhuriyet Square.
The celebration of Pharmacists Day, which was organized in cooperation with TEB 25th Region Mersin Pharmacists Association and our Faculty of Pharmacy, continued with a ceremony at Prof. Dr. Uğur Oral Cultural Centre. The ceremony was attended by Vice Rector Prof. Ahmet Hakan ÖZTÜRK, Dean Prof. Necmiye CANACANKATAN, Board Member of Mersin Medical Association Dr. Abbas KOLUAÇIK, Central Committee Member of Turkish Pharmacists Association Msc. Pharm. Özgün SAĞIR, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Güney Pharmacy Cooperative Pharm. Tarkan Bir, President of Mersin Pharmacists Association Pharm. Aliye AKGÜL AYDIN, academic and administrative staff, and students of the Faculty of Pharmacy. The ceremony began with a minute's silence and the singing of the national anthem.
In his speech, Vice-Rector Prof. Ahmet Hakan ÖZTÜRK discussed the prospects of the pharmacy profession. He said that"First of all, I would like to thank the Pharmacy Association, the associations and the cooperatives for their work. Especially during the pandemic and after the earthquake, pharmacists played an important role in the healthcare system. Our Faculty of Pharmacy, with its high-caliber academic staff, is indeed striving to provide quality education under challenging conditions. To our students, I would like to say that you are being educated in an accredited faculty that is working intensively for its second accreditation period. After graduation, you will work in a variety of fields. Some of you will become independent pharmacists, some of you will choose academia, and some of you will work in the private sector. My advice is that the country needs good academics to carry out projects and research. Therefore, a career in academia might be a better way".
Following the Dean's speech, Pharm. Aliye AKGÜL AYDIN, President of the Mersin Pharmacists Association; Pharm. Tarkan Bir, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Güney Pharmacy Cooperative; Dr. Abbas KOLUAÇIK, board member of the Mersin Medical Association; and Msc. Pharm. Özgün SAĞIR, a member of the Central Committee of the Turkish Pharmacists Association, gave speeches.
The ceremony highlighted the strong professional solidarity within the sector and concluded with a group photo session.
