Technical Sciences Vocational School

Opened in 1976 as a Petrochemical School for night education under the YAYKUR (Common Higher Education Institution) project, affiliated with the Ministry of National Education.

In 1978, the school moved to the Gazi High School building. With the closure of the Petrochemical Program and the opening of Chemistry, Machinery and Engine, and Business Administration and Accounting Programs, it was restructured and renamed Mersin Vocational School.

In 1980, with the addition of the Tourism and Hotel Management Program, it moved to the Mersin Education Institute building. In 1982, it was affiliated with Çukurova University. In 1988, Mersin Vocational School was included in the YÖK/World Bank Industrial Education Project and restructured into Technical Programs and Economic and Administrative Programs. Technical programs include Electrical, Industrial Electronics, Telecommunications, Construction, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration, Control Systems, and Chemistry. Within the Economic and Administrative Programs, Business Administration, Accounting, Tourism and Hotel Management, and Office Management programs were established. Graduates of the school achieved an 85% success rate on the teacher exam administered in 1990 to be employed at Industrial Vocational High Schools and Apprenticeship Training Centers affiliated with the Ministry of National Education.

In 1992, the school was incorporated into Mersin University by Law No. 3837. In 1996, the Stone and Metal Processing Program, which was part of Silifke Vocational School, was restructured as Applied Jewelry Technology and added to the Technical Programs.

Dual-shift education was introduced in the Electrical and Industrial Electronics Programs in the 1997-1998 academic year.

The Glass and Ceramics Technology Program was opened in 1998, and the Mapping and Cadastre Program was opened in the 2002-2003 academic year. A Distance Education Unit was established within Mersin Vocational School in 2002, and the Industrial Electronics Program began. The same year, the school received the ISO EN 9001:2000 Quality Certificate. Within the scope of the METEP project, the school offered programs in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Drafting, Automotive Engineering, Furniture, and Decoration, and within the Economics and Administrative Programs, Hairdressing and Skin Care.

In 2003, Industrial Automation, Electronic Communications, Computer Technology, and Programming were added to the Distance Education Program. The Mechanical Drawing Program was combined with the Mechanical Engineering Program.

In 2005, new locations were established for the Automotive Laboratory and Distance Education Unit. That same year, the Economics and Administrative Programs within the school were separated and transformed into a separate school called the Social Sciences Vocational School.

In 2006, by the decision of the General Assembly of Higher Education dated June 26, 2006, and in accordance with Article 7/D-2 of Law No. 2547, as amended by Law No. 2880, the school was separated from Mersin Vocational School and renamed the Technical Sciences Vocational School. The Food Technology Program in the Department of Food Processing was established in the 2008-2009 academic year.

In the 2017-2018 academic year, the Veterinary Department's Laboratory and Veterinary Health Program began accepting students for both formal and evening education.

In the 2018-2019 academic year, the Opticianry Program was added to the Department of Medical Services and Techniques.

In the 2025-2026 academic year, the Digital Transformation Electronics Program in the Department of Electronics and Automation began accepting students for formal education.

The Vocational School of Technical Sciences offers education in 19 programs under 15 departments.
