Food Technology

The Food Processing Department was established in 2008 as a part of the Technical Sciences Vocational School. It began its educational activities in the 2008-2009 academic year.

Students who graduate from the Food Technology Program receive the title of "Food Technician."

Admission to the Food Technology Program is through direct transfer from related vocational high school departments without an exam and by registering with an MF score from the ÖSYM exam. Students studying at Mersin University may be exempt from certain courses under specific regulations. If the course content is approved by the relevant higher education institution/faculty/institute board and an application is made within the specified timeframe, students will be exempt from those courses. To successfully complete all the courses in the program (a total of 120 ECTS credits), students must achieve a minimum GPA of 2.0 on a 4.00 scale.

This program provides a two-year associate degree level education with a focus on both theoretical and practical aspects. It trains the necessary intermediate technical staff who can work at all stages of production and quality control in small, medium, and large-scale food production enterprises, from raw materials to the final product. Graduates of the program can find job opportunities in various fields of the food industry, such as production, marketing, research and development, and management. Additionally, if they obtain the required score on the KPSS (Public Personnel Selection Examination), they can also work in public institutions and organizations.

Horizontal and vertical transfers are made in accordance with the relevant regulations of YÖK (Council of Higher Education). Graduates can enter the Vertical Transfer Examination to transfer to the Food Engineering Departments of Engineering Faculties or the Nutrition and Dietetics Departments.

To successfully complete all the courses in the program (totaling 120 ECTS credits), students must achieve a minimum GPA of 2.0 on a 4.00 scale. The department has 6 instructors. Students take technology courses such as Fruit and Vegetable Technology, Meat and Meat Products Technology, Plant Oil Technology, Cereal Technology, and Dairy Technology from enterprises that produce in these fields.
