Rules Regarding the Recognition of Prior Learning

The process of recognizing prior learning in higher education institutions in Türkiye is still in its infancy. Therefore, recognition of prior learning is not fully implemented in all programs at Mersin University. However, exemption exams are administered at the beginning of each semester for courses, such as English, that are part of the compulsory curriculum of departments. Students who have completed the learning process in these courses on their own or who believe they have achieved the learning outcomes in these courses through alternative methods may take these exams. Successful students are exempted from the relevant courses in the curriculum.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations

To earn an associate's degree in construction technology (Civil Technician title), students must meet the following requirements: a) Pass all courses in the curriculum with a minimum grade of DD; b) Have a minimum GPA of 2.0 out of 4.0; c) Complete a 40-day mandatory internship and receive a passing grade on the reports prepared for this internship.

Program Profile

The Construction Technology Program provides preliminary training in the construction and operation of all types of structures used in daily life. Construction Technology is a technical discipline based on mathematics and physics, followed by general knowledge in fundamental engineering disciplines such as construction, mechanics, hydraulics, building materials, transportation, geotechnical engineering, and construction management. The primary goal of the program is to train technical personnel with the necessary knowledge and skills to keep pace with developing technology and apply this knowledge in practice. To this end, our program offers not only theoretical knowledge but also practical application skills and licensed training in numerous relevant computer programs (such as SAP2000, IDESTATIK, and AUTOCAD). Graduates of the Construction Technology program are trained as intermediate professionals equipped with the necessary knowledge and professional skills in areas needed by private engineering, architectural offices, construction companies, building inspection firms, and the public sector.

Graduate Employment Profiles

Construction technicians are a professional group actively involved in dam, road, airport, and residential construction projects. They work as technical personnel in companies providing inspection services, in the natural resources, transportation/highway, and construction departments of public and local governments, and in material testing laboratories. As technical personnel, they play a crucial role in the planning, design, construction, and control phases of all structures, including highways, bridges, dams, airports, water supply/distribution systems, residential buildings, and commercial centers.

Transition to Further Education

Graduates and seniors who meet graduation requirements, excluding internships, can be placed in undergraduate programs in their respective fields through the Vertical Transfer Exam (DGS).

Exams, Assessment, and Evaluation

Students are required to take one midterm exam, one midterm assignment (project, seminar, quiz, homework, or a second midterm exam), and one final exam for each course. The midterm exam, along with the midterm assignments, constitutes 40% of the final semester grade, while the final exam constitutes 60%. All exams are graded with an absolute score out of 100. A minimum score of 50 on the final exam is required. Final semester grades are converted to letter grades using a relative grading system. Students who receive a letter grade of (AA), (BA), (BB), (CB), or (CC) in a course are considered successful. At the end of each semester, they may take a make-up exam for courses they failed during that semester.

Graduation Requirements

Students who successfully complete all program courses (equivalent to a total of 120 ECTS credits), have a minimum GPA of 2.0 out of 4.00, and complete a 20-day professional internship will be awarded an associate degree in Construction Technology.

Departmental Facilities

In the Civil Engineering Department, students can learn and apply basic computer and CAD applications using both classrooms and technology classrooms. Important computer software related to construction technology (such as SAP2000, IDESTATIK, and AUTOCAD) is available for student use in the computer labs. The laboratories established for the Construction Technology Program provide experimental environments in key areas such as soil, building materials, and concrete technology.
