Laborant and Veterinary Medicine Health ( Evening Education )

1. Establishment process of the program

Our department started education in 2017 within Mersin University Vocational School of Technical Sciences.

2. Information about the program (Physical facilities, Classrooms, Conference hall, laboratories, halls)

The aim of our department is to work in laboratories within the scope of veterinary medicine, who are equipped in the field of animal nutrition and breeding, who can perform clinical practice and preventive vaccination, who can carry out food and pathological analyzes in public and private laboratories affiliated with the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, who can combat epidemic diseases, who can perform clinical examinations and to train qualified technical personnel who can assist veterinarians in operations. Students who graduate from our department will receive the title of Laboratory Scientist and Veterinary Health Technician. In our department, courses are given in the classrooms within the Vocational School of Technical Sciences. Clinical practices and industry practices courses are taught practically at the Kaşlı Animal Rehabilitation Center of Mersin Metropolitan Municipality and the small animal shelter within the university campus.

There are a total of 6 faculty members in our department, including 2 professors, 1 associate professor, 1 doctor and 2 lecturers.

Our students can find internship opportunities in shelters, private veterinary clinics, hospitals and farms.

5. Employment areas of our graduates

Livestock enterprises, feed mills, agricultural enterprises, private veterinary practices and hospitals in our region are suitable business areas for the employment of students. There are many livestock enterprises currently operating in Mersin Province. The majority of these enterprises are engaged in dairy farming and goat breeding. As it is known, dairy farming and goat breeding is an intensive sector that requires labor and is an area of ​​activity where veterinary technician services are frequently needed.  Veterinary health technicians who will graduate from the "Laboratory and Veterinary Health Program" can easily be employed in this region. In addition, pet animal breeding is rapidly increasing in our country and our graduates in this field are employed both in animal hospitals and private veterinary practices. In parallel with the increasing need for veterinary health services in our country, the need for laboratory veterinarians and health technicians is also increasing. There is a growing field of study in our country for students graduating from our department. The most common employment areas for graduates of the program are:
