Measurement and Evaluation Unit — Duties and Responsibilities
The Measurement and Evaluation Unit of the School of Foreign Languages is responsible for the planning, implementation, and evaluation of academic processes to measure students' language proficiency in a reliable, valid, and objective manner. The unit's primary duties and responsibilities are listed below.
1. Exam Preparation and Development
· Plan, prepare, and update exams for the preparatory program, common courses, and departmental exams in accordance with the academic calendar.
· Ensure the validity and reliability of exam questions, create and regularly update item pools.
· Design balanced and level-appropriate exams addressing the four basic language skills (reading, writing, listening, and speaking).
· Observe scientific principles in the measurement and evaluation processes and work in collaboration with faculty members.
2. Coordination of the Exam Implementation Process
· Conduct planning, assignment, and supervision during the exam administration process.
· Ensuring the confidentiality, security, and integrity of exams.
· Preparing exam guidelines and informing faculty members before the exam.
· Organizing the administration, collection, evaluation, and archiving of exams.
3. Assessment and Analysis
· Statistically analyzing exam results and preparing final reports.
· Conducting item analysis, achievement distribution, and reliability studies of assessment tools.
· Sharing the obtained data with academic boards to improve teaching processes.
· Contributing to educational quality by correlating student achievement with program outcomes.
4. Compliance with Legislation and Standards
· Working in accordance with the assessment and evaluation principles determined by the Council of Higher Education (YÖK) and the university.
· Providing data for quality assurance and accreditation processes and preparing regular reports.
· To follow national and international assessment and evaluation standards and develop the unit's activities accordingly.
5. Training, Collaboration, and Development
· To organize in-service training, seminars, and workshops for faculty members in the field of assessment and evaluation.
· To ensure that exams align with the curriculum by collaborating with academic staff.
· To manage feedback processes for the continuous improvement of assessment and evaluation practices.
6. Archiving and Data Management
· To regularly archive exam documents (question booklets, answer keys, analysis reports, etc.).
· To ensure data security for exams administered digitally and to manage archiving processes.
· To store documents related to assessment and evaluation activities in accordance with the quality management system.
7. Institutional Reporting
· To prepare assessment and evaluation activity reports at the end of each semester and submit them to the relevant academic boards.
· To maintain unit activities in line with the institution's strategic plan and quality policy.
· To monitor and share current practices within the institution to continuously improve measurement and evaluation processes.
