Mersin University Physical Education and Sports Department Introduction

The Department of Physical Education and Sport offers master's (with and without thesis) and doctoral programs to its students in the light of contemporary principles and philosophy of science. Our department aims to provide students with in-depth knowledge and skills in the field of sports sciences and to train experts who are able to conduct scientific research at national and international level, think in a creative and critical way.

Our program offers a wide range of multi-disciplinary education in the fields of Psycho-social Areas in Sport, Exercise-Training Sciences, Sport Management, Sport-Health and Recreation Sciences. Our students have the chance to work in the industry with project support in the laboratory environment where theory and practice are carried out together while developing their skills to transform the theoretical knowledge in their fields into practice and to produce solutions to real-life problems. Thanks to our laboratories equipped with up-to-date technologies, students have the opportunity to carry out their scientific research at the highest level. In addition, the number of students who can participate in the Erasmus program is at a considerable level. The employment rates of our students in both public and private sectors are increasing after the qualified education they receive.

Our department encourages our students to conduct research that has the potential to be published in reputable international journals in Q1 and Q2 categories. In this direction, our students are guided in using scientific research methods effectively, analyzing the data they obtain and presenting and reporting them in accordance with scientific writing rules. Our staff of internationally experienced and respected academicians provide one-to-one academic counseling and guidance to students.

We provide all academic support for our students to reinforce their theoretical knowledge with applied studies and field research. In this way, while our students specialize in the field of sports sciences, they also gain the competence to conduct scientific studies that can be accepted in the international arena. In addition to the contribution to qualified human resources, it also contributes to increasing the international publication scores of our university.

The Department of Physical Education and Sports maintains its vision of educating human resources and leaders who will make a difference in sports sciences with an educational approach that values scientific thinking and creative approaches and aims for continuous development and innovation. Our students who successfully complete our programs could further their academic careers as well as to pursue a career as researchers, managers or educators in the field of sports sciences. In this context, our main mission is to provide all kinds of academic support and guidance to our students throughout their education and research processes and to ensure that they graduate as competent, meritorious, well-equipped individuals who follow the path of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk.
