The Biology Program at Mersin University commenced its educational activities in 1992. The program offers a four-year undergraduate education, as well as graduate and doctoral programs. The academic staff of the Biology Program consists of 10 professors, 2 associate professors, 1 assistant professor, and 3 research assistants. The program comprises four divisions: General Biology, Molecular Biology, Botany, and Zoology.

Students in our program receive both theoretical and practical training. In addition to scientific knowledge, they are encouraged to develop skills in individual and teamwork, academic communication, and discipline-specific working principles. Participation in social and academic activities such as congresses, symposiums, conferences, and panels is also encouraged. Within the framework of the ERASMUS program, students who meet the required criteria have the opportunity to study or complete internships at universities abroad, enhancing their knowledge, skills, and experience.

Graduates of the Biology Program can work in educational institutions upon completing the required pedagogical formation training. They may also be employed in institutions affiliated with the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, and Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, as well as in food and pharmaceutical industries, aquaculture, pest control services, treatment plants, quality control, and research and development (R&D) laboratories. Furthermore, graduates may apply to graduate programs offered by the Institute of Natural Sciences or the Institute of Health Sciences. Those who complete their graduate theses may pursue an academic career.

The program aligns its curriculum with the Bologna Process and the national and international qualification frameworks, continuously updating courses to meet contemporary requirements. The formal undergraduate education spans eight semesters. The program includes both theoretical and practical courses. To graduate, students must complete a total of 240 ECTS credits and maintain a minimum GPA of 2.00 out of 4.00. In addition, students are required to complete an internship in workplaces related to the field of Biology.

Graduates who successfully complete their studies in the Biology Program at Mersin University are awarded a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology along with a Diploma Supplement.
