Department of Labor Economics and Industrial Relations

Mersin University Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences Department of Labor Economics and Industrial Relations was established in 1992 and started education with 30 students in the 2010-2011 academic year. Labor Economics, Management and Sociology of Labor, Labor Psychology, Labor Law and Social Security Law and Operations Department constitute the five main branches of the department. Our department graduated its first graduates at the end of the 2013-2014 academic year. Thesis-based Master's degree education started as of the Fall semester of the 2018-2019 Academic Year, and students have also started to be accepted to the Social Policy and Social Service Second Education Non-Thesis Master's Program as of the Fall semester of the 2020-2021 Academic Year.

Today, the rapid developments in the economic field are not reflected in the social field to the same extent. It is insufficient to address problems affecting all segments of society such as unemployment, poverty, injustice in income distribution, social security problems and social exclusion solely in the context of economic policies. There is a need for strong social policies to accompany economic policies. In this sense, our department aims to graduate individuals who are sensitive to social problems that arise both globally and nationally and can produce solutions, who can follow current developments in their field, who think freely, and who have internalized scientific thought, critical thinking and lifelong learning.
