ACCREDITATION

Accreditation is an evaluation and external quality assurance process that measures whether a higher education program or institution meets academic and field-specific standards predetermined by the Council of Higher Education in a specific field. It can take two forms: institutional and departmental/program accreditation. Institutional accreditation is provided by YÖKAK, and departmental accreditation for our department is provided by YÖKAK and STAR.

The Institutional Accreditation Program (KAP) is an external evaluation method that assesses the quality assurance, education, research and development, social contribution, and management system processes at higher education institutions within the framework of the "planning, implementation, control, and action-taking" cycle.

The KAP is conducted by evaluation teams established by the Higher Education Quality Board, in accordance with the Institutional External Evaluation and Accreditation Criteria and the Institutional External Evaluation and Accreditation Guide.

Each year, YÖKAK determines the higher education institutions to be included in the KAP, and evaluation teams are formed according to the structure of these designated higher education institutions. These evaluation teams conduct two visits (preliminary visit and field visit) to the relevant higher education institutions.

As a result of these visits, the evaluation teams prepare Institutional Accreditation Reports (IAPRs), and based on these reports, the YÖKAK makes accreditation decisions.

YÖKAK makes the following decisions within the scope of the Public Disclosure Platform (KAP):

Full accreditation (five-year term)

Conditional accreditation (two-year term)

Decision to reject accreditation

Program accreditation refers to the evaluation and external quality assurance process that measures whether a higher education program meets predetermined academic and field-specific standards in a specific field, conducted by an accreditation agency.

The Higher Education Quality Board is responsible for the authorization and recognition activities of accreditation agencies in Turkey. The authorization of national accreditation agencies and the recognition of international accreditation agencies are carried out within the framework of the principles and criteria established by YÖKAK.

Since 2016, the YKS Higher Education Programs and Quotas Guide (formerly known as the ÖSYS Higher Education Programs and Quotas Guide) has included information on programs accredited by accreditation institutions authorized or recognized by YÖKAK.
