Infrastructure Facilities
On our university campuses, there are indoor and outdoor sports facilities, an amphitheater, an indoor swimming pool, conference halls, concert halls, and exhibition areas available for social, cultural, artistic, and sports activities, open to all individuals depending on usage conditions, primarily serving our students and staff. Student organizations, established for scientific, cultural, social, artistic, and sports purposes, play a significant role in allowing students to spend their extracurricular time according to their interests, explore new areas of interest, and contribute to their academic development. The establishment and operation of these organizations are governed by the “Mersin University Student Organizations Establishment and Operation Directive” (See Evidence File: Student Organizations Establishment and Operation Directive). Material and financial needs for the activities of these organizations are met by the University’s Department of Health, Culture, and Sports to the extent of the University’s resources.
In 2024, a total of 330 events were organized by 103 student organizations across various categories, representing a 94% increase in the number of events compared to the previous year. As of 2024, the total membership of student organizations is 14,501. The fact that the proportion of students who are members of student organizations to the total student population is 33% indicates substantial participation of students in social, cultural, and sports activities. Specifically, the Economics Society of our department was established on May 15, 2015, and its membership has reached 77 as of the present day (See Evidence File: MEU Student Organizations and Membership Numbers). As of 2024, the Economics Society has organized 2 events (See Evidence File: Student Organizations 2024 Activities).
Within the university campus, there is a stadium with a seating capacity of 5,000, serving not only university students and staff but also the public of Mersin. This stadium includes an Olympic-standard football field and a tartan-surfaced athletics track, an artistic gymnastics hall and a table tennis hall located beneath the stands, a sand-surfaced beach volleyball court, as well as a sports center and fitness hall for individuals with intellectual disabilities.
The Vadi Sports Facilities area includes six clay tennis courts, one artificial turf football field, and one four-lane synthetic basketball court. The Rectorate Physical Education and Sports Facilities area features two concrete-surfaced tennis courts, a dance and gymnastics hall, a tarpaulin-covered sports hall, two concrete basketball courts, and one concrete volleyball court. The No. 2 Indoor Sports Hall area contains a 500-seat indoor sports hall (meeting national standards), one student fitness center, and one staff fitness center.
The Indoor Swimming Pool area includes a semi-Olympic indoor pool measuring 25 meters in length and 2.5 meters in depth with a total area of 5,500 m², as well as an animation pool measuring 20 meters in length and 1.5 meters in depth. Additionally, the Yenişehir Campus has a concrete-surfaced basketball/volleyball court. (See Evidence File: Student Handbook; SKSDB Hall and Sports Facilities Usage Information)
