Program Profile

The Garden Cultivation Program offers a two-year associate degree education. Within this program, students are provided with theoretical and practical knowledge and skills in the fields of fruit growing, vegetable growing, and ornamental plant cultivation, particularly focusing on crops grown in Turkey and specifically in the region. During the education period, courses such as botany, plant ecology, irrigation techniques, fruit growing, vegetable growing, greenhouse vegetable cultivation, pruning, grafting, seedling and sapling cultivation, pest and disease control, post-harvest processing and marketing, plant nutrition and soil science, and organic farming are offered. Students have the opportunity to apply the theoretical knowledge they have gained through practical applications. The aim of the Horticulture program is to train personnel who will work between agricultural engineers and technicians and laborers in the field of horticulture. Providing students with the necessary professional and technical knowledge and analytical thinking to develop themselves in their professional and vocational fields and equipping them with the technical and practical skills required by the business world are among the main goals of the program.

Graduates of the program can transfer to "Agricultural Engineering" bachelor's programs through the Vertical Transfer Exam (DGS).

Employment Profiles of Graduates

Graduates with an associate degree in Horticulture earn the title of 'Garden Cultivation Technician.' Garden Cultivation technicians assist engineers in tasks such as the cultivation, planting, fertilization, spraying, pruning, harvesting, and storage of fruits, vegetables, and ornamental plants, ensuring their execution, supervision, and control. Graduates have the opportunity to work in private sector nurseries, seed companies, agricultural pesticide companies, and greenhouses for the cultivation of all types of indoor and outdoor ornamental plants and in landscaping works, as well as in public sector institutions under the Ministry of Agriculture and in municipalities. Additionally, graduates can apply their knowledge and experience in their own private gardens and greenhouses. Furthermore, if they pass the Plant Protection Products Dealership and Wholesale exams, they can open their own agricultural pesticide dealerships. Graduates of the program can transfer to Agricultural Engineering bachelor's programs through the Vertical Transfer Exam (DGS).
